Pressure Cooker v Stove v Slow Cooker

Throughout my blog, you will see that my favourite appliance would have to be the pressure cooker.

Years ago, I had a crazy fear of them - horror stories of lids blowing off were enough to scare me off ever considering using one.

Then, at a garage sale, I bought one at a ridiculous price - a stove top one. I thought, why not give it a try?

It sat in my cupboard for another 5 years because I was too scared to use it.
Then, Google became my friend and the internet was rapidly expanding - so I thought I'd do a little research and learn about this scary thing in my cupboard.

I decided to have a crack at it - I can't really remember what I made, but I do remember that I was stunned by the results - the cooking time was cut to an unbelievable time - I was hooked.
That old stove top pressure cooker I still have - I don't use it anymore, because we were cooking with gas I would find that a lot of the time I had black bits stuck to the bottom of the pot.

One day, while browsing through Target, I found one on special - down from $149 to just $70 - it was electric - how could I say no??

Now its my absolute favourite - today (Saturday) I have used it probably about 5 times during the day for various things - mainly soups for the coming week.

Depending on what I am cooking, depends on what cycle I put it on. Part of me still cannot believe that I can cook a roast in 30 minutes in it - I still argue with myself it should be longer. So sometimes I will put it on for another cycle.

The pressure cooker saves time and it saves energy! Makes sense huh? If it takes less time to cook, then it must use less power comparatively?

Here's an example (probably the thing that got me hooked to start with):
Lamb shanks in a slow cooker for 8 hours
Lamb shanks in a pressure cooker for 40 minutes
Same recipe, different methods, same result - tender lamb falling off the bone full of flavour.

Yes, I have owned a slow cooker - this little beauty does the lot... do some research, see for yourself how amazing they are.
